Making music together often fails not because of the music but because of everything around it: files go back and forth via messenger, nobody knows which version is current, and every recording needs software not everyone has. uttek Jam brings it all to one place that you run yourself.
Someone uploads an idea – a riff, a vocal line, a beat – and notes what is still wanted. Others listen in and record their track right in the browser while the current mix plays along in their headphones. Count-in, click and latency compensation keep everything in time. The idea’s creator decides which tracks go into the mix and sets volume and offset per track.
Terms, genres, instruments, statuses, registration (open, invitation code or closed), file sizes, storage per member and moderation rules are set in the admin area. With the “Choir” term set, ideas become pieces and tracks become parts; with “Music school”, exercises and recordings.

Starts with SQLite – no database setup. As your business grows, switch to MySQL/MariaDB (PostgreSQL optional) with the admin wizard: test the connection, migrate all data, verify counts, switch over – with rollback.

Frequently asked questions
Do members need recording software?
No. Recording happens right in the browser (Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari) with the device microphone or an audio interface. Anyone who prefers to produce at home simply uploads a file.
Are the tracks really in time?
Jam counts in before recording, the mix plays along in the headphones, and the offset is compensated automatically. Each member sets the latency compensation for their device once; the idea’s creator can fine-tune each track’s offset afterwards.
How many members can I have?
Basic includes up to 5 members, Pro up to 30 and Enterprise up to 100. You decide in the admin area how much storage each member may use.
Is Jam suitable for a choir or music school?
Yes. With the “Choir” term set, ideas become pieces and tracks become parts (soprano, alto, tenor, bass); with “Music school”, exercises and recordings. Registration by invitation code keeps the group closed.
What do I need to run it?
Web space with PHP 8.2 or newer and enough storage for the recordings. The database (SQLite) is built in; MySQL/MariaDB is optional.
Can I try the demo?
Yes, without sign-up. Every visit gets its own demo copy with sample data (online band projects, choir & music school, beats & community), deleted after 24 hours. Recording and uploading also work in the demo.
How secure are logins and data?
Passwords are only stored as a secure hash; new passwords need at least 12 characters and are checked offline against a list of leaked passwords. Everyone can set up two-factor sign-in via an authenticator app (e.g. Google Authenticator, Aegis) with backup codes, and the admin can require it per role. After 5 failed attempts a login lockout with increasing delay applies; “forgot password” sends a single-use link valid for 1 hour. Optionally private messages and report notes are stored encrypted with AES-256-GCM, with the key outside the web root. The “Security (status)” page shows all measures at a glance.
